The Reichsburg Cochem Castle

The Reichsburg Cochem Castle

Cochem Castle, a late gothic building, dates back to the 11th century and it is situated on a hill-top looking out over the Mosel River Valley, in the town of Cochem, Germany, close to the place where River Mosel flows into the Rhine.

The Castle surrounded by large vineyards has a long history of invasions, destruction, rebuilding from the early 1000s, when it was settled by Celts and Romans, then about 300 years later, the people built fortifications that are still there today.

It is one of the former 25,000 castles in Germany, out of which only 15,000 can be found today.

Cochem is situated on the banks of River Mosel: you can enjoy a long walk, to see the cruise boats, the architecture, the restaurants with terraces, and do shopping. Large crowds of tourists fill the streets and walk up to the castle every day.
